Life, post marriage, has been generally good for me. I used to like my solitude, but found that company at home in the evening is much better. The picture gets even better when you throw in the food and the after-dinners...
One snag, though.
My weight started shooting through the roof. Once a healthy 65Kg, now I hover around mid-90s.
Every married man learns to hear his wife without listening..an occasional set of well placed hmms.. and aahs.. and yes, dear can let us continue unhindered with the newspaper article on the new diva or the documentary coming on in the TV. I meandered through the same set of words whenever my wife reminded me of my ever increasing waist line with dire prophesies of what will happen.
I get out of this comfortable slumber once in a year or so....some incident wounds the pride and drives the desire to reduce my weight; And I embark on a weight reduction program. The endeavor usually breaks down on facing the conundrum of the best way to lose weight - rigorous exercise or heavy dieting?
While the early mornings strongly advocate in favor of latter, the aromatic breakfast unfortunately proves too seductive to resist. Caught between the rock and the sea, I give up within two to three weeks. The longest tryst with my destiny has been a period of six months around seven years back - even before my marriage!! You get the picture?
Rima, having put up with my couple of unsuccessful attempts at GM diet - advocating green grass for seven days, has put her foot down and refuses to support any more crash diet programs. She insists that I follow a "healthy" diet combined with regular exercises. True, but it is me who has to get up at 6 in the morning!!!
Well, to cut to the chase, I am in the middle of one of these "reduction" attempts. This time, with a difference, though. Rima controls the food part of it with an iron hand. And I am trying to start small with half an hour walks in the morning.
This is the second week of my odyssey....in the past eight days, I have gone for the walk for six times (my body refused to get up before 8 AM during the weekend). Let us see how long I will continue this time.
Will keep you updated.
